Your flooring is an extremely important (yet often undervalued) part of your home’s aesthetic. Not only does it help to tie the rest of your room’s look together, it also helps to keep your home warm and cosy. A good carpet is a delight for all the senses. It looks amazing, complementing the other decorative elements like your wallpaper, furniture and drapes. It smells beautifully fresh. And it feels so soft and cosy that you just want to run your fingers through it, or at the very least enjoy its soft feel underfoot. The trouble is that without the right care and maintenance, a good carpet doesn’t always stay good for long.
Years of regular wear can cause a carpet to look dull and threadbare when it was once soft and lustrous. What’s more, it can make your whole room feel dirty and unclean, no matter how much effort you up onto keeping the place spotless.
Here we’ll look at wear resistant carpeting- how to choose it and how to protect it from the rigors of daily use...
Aside from a carpet’s color and design, you also need to know that its made from wear resistant materials to ensure a great look and feel with minimal maintenance. The good news is that you can do this with natural or man made fibers.
Polypropylene carpets are hard wearing and stain resistant, as well as being easy to clean and extremely budget friendly. Polyamide carpets are also extremely hard wearing and bounce right back into shape when walked upon helping your carpet look newer for longer.
In terms of a soft and luxurious feel, you can’t beat wool. What’s more, wool is extremely resilient, bouncing back after foot falls and retaining its shape and appearance. It’s also flame resistant and provides great sound and heat insulation. Sisal carpet is also an extremely wear resistant natural material.
A wear resistant carpet is designed to be low maintenance. Still, with a little vigilance and care you can keep your carpet looking and feeling brand new for years to come. Here are some tips to get the most out of your carpet;
Shoes off! Especially in the cold Rhode island winters when snow, salt and dirt from the sidewalk can be trodden into the fibers of your carpet and create extra wear.
Vacuum regularly (at least twice a week) to ensure that dirt, dust and animal dander are not trodden deeper into the carpet fibers.
Sprinkle baking soda onto your carpet before vacuuming to keep it smelling fresh.
Deep clean your carpet regularly to remove ground in dirt, dust and animal dander.
